Ways to Exercise Away That Depression

I have been looking at other blogs with a view to finding out more about ways to deal with Depression. Below is part of a post by KSV, another blogger looking at Depression Help:
Walking Fast - A Significant Influence on Mild to Moderate Depression Symptoms
A study published in 2005 found that easy to walk about 35 minutes per day five times a week or 60 minutes per day three times a week had a significant impact on mild to moderate depression symptoms….
From the article it appears that research shows that walking fast so many times per week can help you deal with depression, but did find that results were quicker when the walker was also taking antidepressants.
Of course, research is improving all the time and it could be the case that later studies show slightly different results. Nevertheless, as the article said, if you want to combat mild to moderate depression but don’t want to take any medication, then exercise like fast walking, or other forms of aerobic exercise, could well be beneficial to you, and it would certainly help you maintain your weight.
One of the things many people find when they suffer from depression is that their weight can go up or down quite dramatically. For anyone who puts on weight when they are depressed, exercise would obviously help them lose the excess and feel happier about their self image, so that in itself could be a way to help them deal with their depression.
I have been a little lax on the exercise front lately myself, but this does tend to happen when I get depressed.
Looks like I had better get the trainers on and get out for a fast walk. I guess anything is better than sitting around feeling depressed.
Now if only I can get the energy to do that, all will be fine…
